A Glad Thanksgiving
Is it any wonder that people are enthralled with the work of Ellen H. Clapsaddle (1865-1934) and her wonderful holiday illustrations? She was a prolific artist during the golden age of post cards. Unlike many postcard artists of that time, almost all of her pieces are signed which might be a reflection of her standing in the art world. This postcard, entitled A Glad Thanksgiving is from 1909.
It is a bit different from many other vintage Thanksgiving holiday images as it features blue and white dishware within the design. A border of cups hangs at the top of the card and the bottom is decorated with a tea set. The central image is a lovely turkey drawn on a dinner plate. You could easily scavenge this piece for several different uses besides Thanksgiving by isolating the cups, tea set or the turkey.
