Linen Christmas Card
In 1912, Christmas cards looked very different from what we send each other today. They more resembled what we call post cards. This linen Christmas card had more than a few issues. The original text was blurred the post mark bled through from the other side and the edges were a bit tattered. Fixed all of that for you and it should be ready to go.
I love the simplicity of the design. Just enough gold, gilding to be effective on an otherwise simple drawing. The limited use of color on the beige background makes the picture really stand out and created the effect of a roof covered with a thick layer of snow. There’s no elves, reindeer, sleigh or jolly fellow in sight but we somehow envision them all from the series of blue footsteps leading up to the red, snow-capped chimney.
