Love Bird Frame

When I first saw this vintage advertising image for sewing thread, I saw so many possibilities for it. The postcard dates back to 1876 – the Centennial. It advertised Corticelli silk and tits which received the chief prize at the Centennial.

The text was unevenly printed, there was what appeared to be water damage and a number of other issues with the original image. But, all I saw was the sweet love bird frame hidden among the excess bits. The image shown is slightly smaller than the original to conserve a bit of bandwidth and expenses. To download and print the original, just click on the image itself to see the larger version.

With a cleaner background and the text removed, we now have this love bird frame. It would work for both Valentine’s Day and Christmas or just to simply say “I Love You” to your sweetie.

The postcard is in full color with a pair of pink and grey lovebirds cuddling together. I recreated the beige, mottled background but made the colors more even and got rid of the water stain. Best of all, there’s plenty of room to add a personal message or to insert your own photo to make the card entirely your own. Have fun and remember FreeVintageArt.com when you share it with someone special.
