Tree Frame
Created by S. James Brown for a 1909 edition of a natural history magazine, this tree frame features a pair of leafy trees creating a canopy where you can place your own text. Originally used as a title heading for a magazine article, you could easily draw a great deal of attention to your own work with this interestingly-shaped piece. Part triangle and part rectangle, it would certainly add some visual interest to your project; even if you leave it in its original black and white form.
I think the trees are aspens. I couldn’t find anything in a quick search about the illustrator. The name is too common and there is the famous singer and a modern artist with the same name. I bet our James Brown would have never thought the pretty little tree frame he drew would be enjoyed by other artists over 100 years later.
